Were you one of the hundreds who visited the PPA-sponsored pump track at Open Streets Mitchells Plain on 3 April? If not, you certainly missed out! We met at the Palmyra Junction in Claremont where the “Bicycle Cape Town Bike Bus” met to cycle some 21 km to Merrydale Avenue, Mitchells Plain, assisted by a PPA support vehicle.
At Mitchells Plain, the PPA-sponsored ‘pump track’ was drawing loads of visitors, with parents and children alike queuing to pedal around the pump track. PPA had sponsored a similar initiative for the Open Streets Bree Street in January.
“Open Streets” is a worldwide movement of citizens who are reclaiming their streets as public space. During an ‘Open Streets Day’, streets are closed off to motorised transport to create a platform for community building and healthy recreational activity.
