Rens has been a PPA member for some 10 years and joined the PPA Executive Committee in 2012, serving as PPA’s vice-chairman for 2 years before being elected Chairman in 2016. Rens holds a Masters Degree from Stellenbosch University in Business and Management Science. As a keen cyclist with strong business acumen, Rens is keen to continue assisting the PPA and its membership to move forward and grow its base and influence across the country.
From a cycling pedigree, Rens successfully completed a number of Absa Cape Epics; has ridden a couple of sub-3 hour Cape Town Cycle Tours; completed a few Coronation Double Centuries as well as overseas road cycling events, including the 2015 Gran Fondo road race in Italy. Like many Cape cyclists, he is concerned about the plight of the commuter and the amateur cyclist; about road safety and the creation of an environment where cyclists feel safe to ride.
Rens regularly commutes to work on his 30-year-old 10-speed and enjoys the social side of anything cycling. He also often writes cycling-related columns for Bicycling and Full Sus publications.
