PPA changes lives in Greyton and Genadendal

For the past three years, PPA has supported a cycling project in the Greyton-Genadendal area.  The projects supports some 40 kids from the area, aged 9-16, and PPA has provided with some entry-level bicycles, helmets and bicycle spares, and assisted to have off-road trails built in Genadendal and Greyton where the kids can ride in a safe environment.

“The kids come from a really poor background,” said project coordinator Ria Wills. “For many of them, these weekly cycling sessions are the absolute highlights of their week. It’s a way to get the kids off the streets. Cycling allows them to escape from the realities of their lives for a few hours, where simply having fun is all that is on the agenda.”

The kids ride 2-3 times per week, under the watchful eyes of the four ‘guides’ or mentors. “Some of the kids have even progressed to being able to participate in the Greyton MTB Tour,” Ria said.

Any donations of off-road bicycles in good working order (especially small MTB’s), as well as bicycle spares, would be greatly appreciated. Please email PPA for more information.
