The annual Tour de PPA is your last road funride where you can get a good training session in before the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Both the 72 km and the 110 km start at the Durbanville racecourse, and take you over the Tiekiedraai and Vissershok climbs before heading for the undulating areas around Durbanville. The long route is a Cape Town Seeding series event

CLICK HERE to enter now. Online entries close at 23h59 on Monday 19 February. Late entries (at the late entry fee) will be taken at registration during the week and on the morning of the event.

  • 'No-medal' discount: Have too many medals and don't know what to do with them? Save yourself some money and elect to pay a discounted entry fee if you do not wish to take a medal at the end of the event (you will, however, still be able to photograph yourself with a medal for your social media!).

DEDICATED START GROUP FOR BEGINNER CYCLISTS IN THE 72 km

We are organizing a start group for newbies in particular (or anyone who'd like to ride in this dedicated group) for the 72 km route at the Tour de PPA. This ‘safe cycling’ group will be guided by experienced PPA cycling marshals, who will assist you on the day with tips on how to ride safely in a group and in general keep an eye on you, and make sure the group stays together throughout the ride. The group will start at the back of the line-up, aiming to complete the 72 km ride at an average speed of 18-20 km/h.

There is no cost involved – you simply need to pre-enter the 72 km event online and complete the online application so that we can contact you with further information. If possible, please wear a PPA safe cycling jersey to assist us with identifying the riders in this group.

Interested? Please click here to apply online to join the group. Applications to ride in this group close at 23h59 on 19 February.

START TIMES

The highest seeded riders in the long route (A-batch) start first at 06h30, followed by the other batches at 3-5 minute intervals.

Unseeded riders (the 'temp' groups and non-PPA members) start behind the seeded groups.

The short route starts at 08h00.

It is difficult to predict exactly when a start group should be ready to go as entries are still taken on the day which means groups will largely be batched only on the day, but in general look at your seeding eligibility and then work out your start group at 3 minute intervals from the A batch. Please be in your start chute at least 20 minutes before your envisaged start time.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION
From Durbanville, both routes climb up Tiekiedraai before turning right onto the undulating Contermanskloof Road. Cyclists then head right at the Vissershok 4-way stop to tackle the tough climb up Vissershok. After winding their way through Durbanville, cyclists turn left onto Wellington Road and onto the flatter open roads.

The two routes split at the R312/Fisantekraal 4-way intersection, with the shorter route turning left while the 110 km route will continue straight to the R44 where they will turn left. From there long route riders will turn left at Voor-Paardeberg, and left again onto the R304 before joining up with the 72 km route at the silos. All riders then head back towards Durbanville via Adderley Road. The finish is some 4 km from the event venue, with a neutral zone back to the Racecourse.
