ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The Wolseley MTB Funride offers 4  MTB routes (60 km, 40 km and 28 km route, as well as an 8 km kiddies’ ride) and a Trail Run.

The routes are designed by local Epic cyclist, Neels Zeeman. They start with a gentle climb before descending to the Breede River, with a necessary tar road crossing over the river. The routes then follow farm tracks through the local orchards, meeting the famous Waterval Mountains at Verrekyker Farm with an epic climb of Kluitjieskraal Pass lying in wait for the 60km riders.

After the split from the shorter routes, the 40 km follows a climbing jeep track and various loops along the side of the mountain in the Kluitjieskraal Forest before returning to Mountain Ridge through more local farm land. The flattish 25 km route is aimed at the more inexperienced rider and returns from the bottom of Kluitjieskraal via farm roads and orchards.

After climbing the Pass, the 60 km route skirts the hidden Suurvlakte plateau before ascending out the valley and then descending the sometimes treacherous jeep track to the waterfall crossing, where bike and rider will get a bit wet, depending on the depth of the river. The route then returns via the lower forestry ground, but along energy sapping undulations such as Ben Hur (Rooibult), where the gradients can cause a pride-denting dismount before joining the shorter routes for the home stretch.

THE FINISH

Mountain Ridge Cellar will be the host of the start and finish of the event. They will also be open for wine tasting and sales. The monthly Ramkiekie Farmers Market will also be at the venue, which is a market consisting of local produce and crafts. There will also be food to eat, a pudding table with real traditional puddings, and hot coffee for sale.

Once you have finished your ride there are hot showers available, and then please join us at the Market for some replenishment, live music and the enjoyable warm and local hospitality.

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE

Take the N1 from Cape Town towards Worcester. Turn left towards Ceres some 30 km after the Tunnel. Proceed for approx another 35 km towards Wolseley/Ceres.  Mountain Ridge turn-off will be on your right shorty after the railway bridge.  Carry on for 1 km and the cellar will be on your left.  GPS Coordinates: 33°28’426 S E019°12.150 E

NOTES

Children u/12 will be allowed on the 20 km and 8 km routes and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. This family event offers a “mini-fair” atmosphere and Ramkiekie Farmer’s Market with local wine estate stalls for the adults; interesting home industry stalls and food stalls.
