And the good news is: Entries for the 2010 PPA Wacky Wheels overnight tour have opened!
The 2010 tour date is Sat 27-Sun 28 March. The tour will start just outside Pringle Bay, where we'll leave our cars overnight at a secure location. Registration will take place between 08h30 and 09h00, and we’ll get on our bikes between 09h00 and 09h30. Coffee, tea and rusks will be provided at registration.
From there we cycle to Onrust via Betty's Bay and Kleinmond, and again we encourage you to stop en route at a coffee shop or restaurant for a breather, or just to enjoy the view and take pretty pics.
We are constantly checking out the gravel road between the Arabella and the Hemel-en-Aarde road to see if we can use that as an alternative option (read: a little detour) for Wacky Wheelers who want to ride half tar, half gravel. When we drove the route a few weeks ago it was horribly sandy and corrugated, but it’s just so scenic that we do hope it will be graded closer to the time. We’ll keep entrants posted.... PS: The gravel option is quite hilly and you need to be somewhat fit for that.
We’ve again booked some camping spots next to the sea. We’ll return to Pringle Bay on the Sunday, finishing at lunchtime.
This year we’ll be dining in style at a local restaurant – you’ll receive some meal options to choose from with your entry form.
The jolly folk from the Hemel and Aarde Wine Village have again agreed to host us for a wine tasting Saturday afternoon at 16h00 – please let us know on the entry form if we should count you in for that. Of course, if you prefer just relaxing on the beach instead, that’s perfectly fine too.
We’ll again have our near-legendary “prize giving” on Saturday night, with prizes for the “Wackiest photograph taken en route”, “Wackiest item collected en route”, and of course... The Quiz! This year we won’t ask you again what’s the colour of the roof of the last house on the left as you exit Betty’s Bay... or will we...?
Entries are confirmed only once we receive your payment and close when the 50 available places have been filled, or by 16 March 2010.
Cost: R300 for PPA members; R400 for non-members.
If you don’t feel like camping, there is alternative accommodation available in the area, which would be for your own pocket.
