FAQ

What are the questions that we seem to get asked fairly regularly? Read on…

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A RESEEDING?
Seeding runs regularly take place during the year – you can check out the seeding section of the web site to see if you qualify for a new number. If you do qualify to be upgraded and decide that you do want to do so, you need to bring your old seeded number BACK TO THE OFFICE as this number needs to go back into the database. The current cost to be reseeded is R50.00.

Please note that it is compulsory to return your current number, as new seeded numbers will only be issued on return of the old ones.

HOW DO I GET TO PPA?
Our physical address is: 9 Hill Park Lane, Mowbray, 7700.

From Northern Suburbs: – take the N1, then M5, then N2, take the Liesbeeck Parkway turnoff to the left. Turn left at the first set of traffic lights (that’s Durban road and you’ll be going away from the mountain). Then take the first right into Hill Park Lane.

From Southern Suburbs: – same as above, but start from the M5 or N2.

From Cape Town: - take the N2 out of town, take the left Liesbeeck Parkway off-ramp. Turn right at the traffic lights towards Rondebosch. At the traffic lights turn left into Durban road and first right into Hill Park Lane.

WHAT ARE EASY ENTRY TICKETS?
Easy Entry Tickets are pre-paid funride entry tickets, which allows you to enter an event on the day without having to pay the late entry fee. Easy Entry tickets are currently being phased out.

WHY CAN I NOT SEE MY RESULTS ON THE WEB SITE?
If you did NOT wear your transponder while participating in an event, please note that you cannot be credited with a result for that particular event. Results can unfortunately not be added manually.

NO TRANSPONDER – NO RESULT!

For most events on the PPA calendar, PPA (and not the event organiser) pays for the event to be timed. When PPA pays for timing, only PPA members will receive a result/time. Should the organiser, however, pay for timing (eg for bigger events like Die Burger Fietstoer or the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour or the Engen Dynamic Challenge or the 99er Cycle Ride), then all participants receive results, irrespective of whether they are PPA members or not.

So, if you did ride with your personal transponder and you do not see your results, please check under “My PPA” to find out if your membership had not lapsed; the next step being to check the mat data for your transponder for a particular event.

HOW DO I GET THE WEEKLY EMAIL WITH EVENT INFO?
As soon as you become a paid-up PPA member and we have a valid email address for you, you’ll receive our weekly email with event news and information. This email address will not be sold on to any outside organisation, and will be used only to communicate cycling event information and general PPA news to you. If you change email address, please ensure that your details are updated on the database, so that you do not miss out on some important event information!

WHAT HAPPENS IF i FORGET MY SEEDED NUMBER AT HOME?
You need your seeded number to be able to start in your normal start grou[. If you have forgotten your seeded number at home, you have two options:
(a) Buy a temp number at R5 from the organisers and start in the unseeded groups at the back of the field, and just ride for fun
(b) Go to the PPA Mobile Office and check if you are listed on the database. If so, you’ll be able to buy a seeded number to use on the day at R30. This special PPA number (NOTE: This is not the same as the temp number issued by the organisers to unseeded riders) will allow you to start in your normal seeded group on the day.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED MY PPA CARD AND WANT TO ENTER AN EVENT?
(a) Contact the PPA Office before you enter the event and ask for confirmation of your PPA membership number, and an email/fax to use until your card reaches you
(b) Ask for your card to be taken out to the next event that you intend participating in, so that you can collect it there
(c) Go to the PPA Mobile Office at the event and ask them for proof of your membership, to take to the registration table
NOTE: All events that use the Racetec Online Entry system will automatically see you as a paid-up PPA member when you enter online, as Racetec, PPA and the Cycle Tour share a database.
