AUGUST ON THE PPA FUNRIDE CALENDAR: Coming up this weekend: The Potberg MTB (55 km, 32 km, 10 km) takes place on Sat 23 Aug, with the PPA Helshoogte Hill climb #3 taking place on Sun 24 Aug. This is the last one in the series - don't miss out! The last weekend in the month sees two new events taking place: Wellington Gravel Travel MTB (60 km, 30 km, 5 km on Sat 30 Aug) or the Buffet Olives MTB Challenge (45 km, 30 km, 15 km on Sun 31 Aug). SPRING LEAGUE ENTRIES OPEN: Registrations for the Spring 2008 league are currently open. Read more in the leagues section.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS: All memberships expire at the end of June, as the PPA membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June (irrespective of when you join PPA). Click here for more information on how to pay your subs!

WANTED: SECONDHAND CYCLING KIT AND BICYCLES! We always need cycling clothes and secondhand bicycles (both road and MTB) in working order for our various development/transformation cycling projects. Just bring the clean kit and/or bicycles to the PPA Office during office hours, and we'll gladly distribute it to someone who'll make good use of it!

REPORTING OF CYCLING ACCIDENTS: Please report all cycling incidents to accidents@pedalpower.org.za. Include the date, time and location of the incident;  a short description of what happened; and a contact number/email address.

SEEDED FUNRIDE NUMBERS: Only paid-up members living in the Western Cape automatically receive a seeded funride number to use both at road and MTB events on the PPA calendar, with PPA members (wearing their seeded numbers) starting ahead of non-members. Please contact the PPA office if you have not received your funride number and membership card within two weeks after joining. Funride numbers and membership cards will, upon request, gladly be sent to members living outside the Western Cape. We'll start posting the new funride numbers early in August - your 2007/8 (green) numbers will be valid until then.

BIKE TO WORK: The first Wednesday of every month is cycle to work day! So, get ready for Wednesday 3 September; pack your panniers or a small backpack, and let us know how many other commuters you  spot on the road! Do send us your feedback and queries, as well as your tips to fellow commuters, on commuting@pedalpower.org.za.

ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET: Apart from the fact that in South Africa you have to wear a helmet by law, it makes good sense to always wear one! You never know when someone else will cause you to fall...

PPA FUNRIDE EMERGENCY NUMBER: The PPA emergency phone is always manned by the PPA event co-ordinator at funrides. Should you require assistance during a funride, or wish to report an accident, simply phone 083 414 1442.
